Synopsis 

"A Whisker Away" is a Japanese animated film about Miyo Sasaki, a junior high student nicknamed "Muge," who transforms into a cat to get closer to her crush, Kento Hinode. Miyo, struggling with her feelings for Kento and her strained relationship with her stepmother, finds solace in becoming a cat named Taro. Kento, unaware that Taro is actually Miyo, accepts and even names her after his deceased dog. Through Taro, Miyo observes Kento's struggles with his family's pottery shop closing and even overhears him being insulted. She tries to confess her love through a letter, but it's intercepted and read aloud in class, leading to further embarrassment for both of them.

As Miyo spends more time as a cat, the line between her human and feline selves blurs, and she faces the possibility of being trapped as a cat forever. The film delves into the idea of choosing between the freedom and acceptance she finds as a cat and the desire to be truly known and loved as herself.
